- Turn off all electronics that could go off during the conversation. They will distract both you and your listener, and effectively kill the communication.
- Make it clear what you are wishing to convey from the outset. People need to know in advance what you expect from your communication.
- Thank the person or group for having given you some time to listen and respond.
- Keep your listener at ease.
- Discuss what you want to communicate with those you feel comfortable around first in order to better develop the message in your own mind.
- Be attentive when listening and ensure that your facial expressions reflect your interest.
- It is important to look into the other person's eyes if possible and maintain contact for a reasonable amount of time.
